Welcome Kindergarten Superheroes!

Flying February

I cannot believe that it is already February!! There are many exciting things ahead for all of our superheroes! For Valentine’s Day, we will be doing a Valentine exchange in our classroom. We have 14 students in our class! We will also be rocking our best Valentine’s Day, red, or pink outfit on Friday February 14th. The Laurel Hill student council is also selling flowers for Valentine’s Day! You can send flowers for your child to take home, send to teachers, or friends! Each flower is $4 and you can attach a note with your order.  The biggest adventure our students will be undertaking is the Poetry Tea. Our Poetry Tea will be on Wednesday, February 12th at 9:30am in the Event Room. Students will need to be in assembly dress for the tea. Students should be practicing their pocket poems and starting Friday January 31st their personal poem every night! Besides attending the wonderful event and hearing your children recite their Aileen Fisher’s poem as well as their own, you will have the chance to share your own poem with your child! Your poem must be emailed or sent in your child’s folder by Friday February 7th! Please email me if you have any questions about your poem! The students have been working incredibly hard to analyze poems and they are very excited to share their skills with you! Students are also beginning to prepare for our Robotics fair in March. Our robotics theme is a cross-curriculum topic. In the spring, students will be learning about endangered species for our research paper topic. This robotics topic also relates to Science with an understanding of animals and their habitats. It also relates to Social Studies as students will be learning about mapping. Students are beginning to teach and program their robots how to be animals and how they can complete a task as that animal! They will begin to learn about different habitats and the animals in those habitats. It is almost time for February break. The school will be closed from February 15th to the 23rd. We will be back in the classroom on Monday February 24th.  As February comes to an end, the students will be embarking on their next adventure: Peter Pan. Peter Pan is the play your children will be performing in May. Before the break, students will receive their parts and scripts so they can practice! February is going to be an exciting month and I can’t wait to see your children fly!
